Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to examine patterns that have occurred from the 1988 Advanced Placement Exam in Computer Science.

Findings: 1. Based in the 4-part exam, there were five questions that became known as the "powerhouse questions" with correlation above 0.20. The CS concepts that emerged as the powerhouse were binary trees, conditionals, loops, arrays, recursion and liked lists
